This was shot with:
Camera: Canon 1Dx
Lens: Canon 70-200L lens
Lighting: Canon 600 EX II speedlites

If you’re going to shoot a scene that has been shot millions of times such as a sunset add something or someone in the foreground to make it uniquely yours. I didn’t want the traditional silhouette sunset photo so I positioned two assistants in the water at either end of the paddle board. Each assistant was holding one 600 EX II Speedlite. They cross lit the subject. I used pocket wizards to trigger the speed lites at the same time. Because I needed the assistants to be close enough that that the light wouldn’t spill onto the water and strong enough to light against the sunset I did have to photoshop them out in post.
